  The Pinnacle of Vietnamese Quality

 

HCM City has contributed a great deal to the country, particularly in terms of economy. On the road to industrialization and modernization on the threshold of the 21st century, HCM City has connected with Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Binh Duong provinces to form a focal economic hub. It has also cooperated with the Mekong Delta provinces, the rice basket of the country; the southwestern provinces and the Central Highlands, with forestry potentials; and the central and northern provinces. HCM City is one of the country’s biggest venues to attract foreign direct investment. It is trying to become a sizable tourism and service center.

In the effort to achieve integration with the economies of Southeast Asia, and with those of the rest of the world, HCM City has been trying to contribute its part to the common cause. As part of the unified country, HCM City strives to realize the tasks set by the resolution of the 9th Party Congress, contributing its part to national construction and defense to be worthy of a city bearing the name of Uncle Ho.


MUNICIPAL THEATRE

Located at Dong Khoi Street in the center of HCM city, adjacent to the two big hotels Caravelle and Continental. The Municipal Theatre has an ancient and majestic architecture, with a ground-floor, two upper storey, 1800 seats, well-ventilated air and a modern system of sound and light. The HCMC Municipal Theatre is an ideal place for organizing performances of professional stages such as: dramatic arts, renovated theatre, music and song, ballet, traditional dances, opera, for all delegations inland and abroad. Here can be also organized the meetings, the commemorated holidays and specialized workshops.

Reunification Palace or Independence Hall with immense area, modern architectural style & historical characteristic fascinate sightseers, especially by its tunnel network, communication centre & war room underground. The palace is open from 7:30 am to 11:30 am and 1: pm to 5: pm daily except for official reception or meetings.
Possessing a large precinct, a modern architecture along with its historicity, the Reunification Palace specially attracts the sightseeing visitors by its underground trenches, communication room and operation joint staff room at the basement.

PEOPLE' COMMITTEE HALL

The Hall was built between 1900 & 1908, at the beginning of Nguyen Hue Street. By its unique decoration, the building is really outstanding & magnificent.

Constructed by the French from 1877 to 1883, the Notre Dame Cathedral is a fine landmark with its neo-Romanesque architecture. There are many masses daily and the 9:30 am Sunday mass might be the best one for foreigners to attend.

Ben Thanh Market was built in 1914. The main entrance with its belfry and clock has become a symbol of Saigon. All kinds of foods and items are present here, the most prosperous of all markets in the city.

 

 

SAIGON CENTRAL POST OFFICE

At 2 Cong Xa Paris St., District 1, the Saigon CPO was built between 1886 and 1891 in a traditional French-style. Postal services are available daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm.

Situated at No 339 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, D.3, HCMC.

The pagoda is build from 1964 to 1971 according to the Chinese letter meaning “Publicity”, with two piling roof layers to bring out the oriental ancientness. That is the biggest pagoda in the city following Mahayana Buddhism

GIAC LAM PAGODA

First built in 1774, this compound is believed to be the oldest pagoda in the city. It is at 118 Lac Long Quan St., Tan Binh District.

Located at No 89, Ba Huyen Thanh Quan Street, D.3, the Xa Loi Pagoda is built in 1956 thanks to the contribution of people around 21 southern provinces. The Vietnamese Society of Buddhism organized to construct the pagoda with the purpose to worship the remains of Buddha. The monastic community and buddhists get accustomed to call it as Xa Loi Pagoda, therefore the pagoda is inaugurated as Xa Loi Pagoda, a familiar name to everybody. The sanctuary at the first floor is decorated simply and solemnly, here are venerated the remains of Buddha, offered by Narada in Ceylan to Vietnamese Buddhism.

The pagoda is elected to establish the headquarters of Vietnamese Buddhist Church

CU CHI TUNNEL

Pertaining to Phu My Hung commune, Cu Chi District, Cu Chi Tunnel is a famous historical vestige of the city, located at 17 km from the center of HCMC to the North-West.

It is a unique architectural work, a system of deeply underground tunnels, in which many storey, many ramifications interlace, where people can lodge and eat, organize meetings, conduct activities, and do fighting. This secret system of underground tunnels is unearthed since the time of Resistance War against the French Colonialism (1948), having then only 17 km. After 1960, the system continued to be reinforced, developed further to reach 250 km, with 3 storey, of which the deepest is 8 - 10m underground. Cu Chi is called the native land of “tunnel war”, titled to be “steely ground, coppery rampart”.

At the present, this historical vestige is becoming an attractive tourist area, where thousands of domestic and foreign guests visit everyday. In particular, many leaders of the Party and heads of states of Viet Nam and other countries pay visit here and write down commemorative impressions. The government recognized Cu Chi Tunnel as a national historical-cultural vestige.

BEN DUOC TEMPLE TO COMMEMORATE HEROIC MARTYRS

Located within the zone of Cu Chi Historical vestige, belonging to Phu My Hung commune, Cu Chi District, Ben Duoc Temple started to be constructed at 15-9-1993 and inaugurated the first stage at 19-12-1995, which consist of: three-door temple gate, Epitaph House, nine-storey tower, central chamber and flower-garden.

A stone stele with 3 m height and 3.7 tones weight is put in the middle of Epitaph House, being engraved the article “Forever we memorize” of Vien Phuong writer.

At the central chamber, the sanctuary is decorated solemnly, with the statue of Ho Chi Minh President in the very middle and the names of heroic martyrs at three surrounding sides, carved by gilded letters in granite stone steles. The floor below the Temple is the place to present images, objects, models, sand tables … in order to highlight the theme “Cu Chi, steely ground, coppery rampart”. The December 19th is the annual festival to commemorate and show deep gratitude to heroic martyrs at the Ben Duoc Temple

HO CHI MINH MUSEUM

Located at 1 Nguyen Tat Thanh St., District 4. Here, 21-year-old Ho, having signed on as a stoker and galley-boy on a French freighter, left Vietnam in 1911. The museum houses many of Ho personal effects, including some of his clothing, sandals and other memorabilia. The museum is open from 7.30 to 11.30 am and 1.30 to 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday; on Saturday & Sunday, it stays open until 9 pm.
